How do I become a virtual assistant?
Does the idea of working at the same place all the time terrify you? Do you want to be able to do your work from home, in your pajamas, with your cat? OR
Do you want to travel the world and never worry about making it late to the office again?
Then you might want to become a virtual assistant like I did.
A virtual assistant functions in a lot of the same ways a personal assistant might with one large exception, YOU CAN WORK FROM ANYWHERE! (and there's no dress code, unless you want one)
So how did I become a virtual assistant?
I created the opportunity for myself.
If you have an entrepreneurial mindset, you will be able to do the same:
- Determine if this is the right type of freelance work for you.
-Are you able to be your own boss?
-Do you thrive on deadlines?
-Do you have a skill set that is valuable to others?
- Legitimize your business as a Sole Proprietorship or Limited Liability Company.
(some tax perks to the latter)
- Reserve your place on the internet.
-Set up a website.
-Claim your social media handles, even if you don't end up using them right away.
-Tell people what you do.
-Find out what other people do.
-Repeat until you're blue in the face.
- When you land your first client, wow their pants off.
Steps 1-3 might take you anywhere from one to a few months to complete depending on your current set of skills, mine include some internet savvy which helps.
Step 4 could take many months of talking to everyone you meet about what they do, who they are, and what their passions are. If someone asks what you do for work it is a great way to pitch the idea to others and see what sticks or needs clarification.
Once you make it to your first client all you have left to do is prove they hired the right person for the job!
